Scholarships at the University of Wisconsin

You can study at the University of Wisconsin with funded assistance if you read this article. The University of Wisconsin offers a variety of scholarships which students can find and apply for through the Wisconsin Scholarship Hub (WiSH). Here are some scholarships you can apply for at the University of Wisconsin.

Merit-Based Scholarships: $1,000 – $2,000

This is a yearly scholarship which UW-Stout awards to beneficiaries. Over 400 merit-based scholarships are awarded yearly to incoming students in recognition of academic excellence. These scholarships which are highly competitive are granted through a selective award process. All new first-year students admitted to UW-Stout are automatically considered for merit-based scholarships, but please note that selection is not guaranteed.

One of the major criteria is that students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.6 or higher. To be fully considered, students must be admitted to the university by December 1. A second round of awards may be offered by April 1, depending on the availability of funds.

STOUT Scholars Scholarship: $5,000 (Renewable Option)

Stout Scholars Scholarship is a selective opportunity that awards $5,000 to beneficiaries. It is renewable for an additional three years, as long as the student maintains eligibility, for a total value of $20,000. Thos who meet eligibility requirements will be invited by email to attend a Stout Scholars interview in February and three outstanding students will be awarded! You are eligible for consideration if you meet these criteria:

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.67 or higher
  • ACT composite score of 27 or higher or SAT total score of at least 1280*
  • Recent high school graduate admitted to UW-Stout as a first-year, full-time, degree-seeking student for fall semester
  • Enrolled as an on-campus student (online/customized instruction students are ineligible)
  • Must be admitted, and updated credentials must be received, by February 1

Students who participate in the Stout Scholars interview process and are not awarded the Stout Scholars Scholarship will be awarded a non-renewable $2,000 Stout Promise Scholarship.

Out-of-State Scholarship: $3,000 (Renewable Option)

The Out-of-State Scholarship is a non-resident tuition waiver which offers $3,000 award to beneficiaries. The scholarship is renewable for an additional three years, as long as the student maintains eligibility, for a total value of $12,000. No additional application is required. To be qualified for this scholarship applicants have to meet these criteria:

  • New student starting at Stout Fall 2024 and beyond.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Transfer student OR recent high school graduate admitted to UW-Stout as a first-year, full-time, degree-seeking student for fall semester
  • Enrolled as an on-campus student (online/customized instruction students are ineligible)
  • Must be a resident of another state with non-resident status (Note: Students from IL, IN, IA, KS, MI, MN, MO, NE, ND, OH, and SD are ineligible, as they qualify for reduced tuition through reciprocity or other waiver programs).

 Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management Scholarship ($1,000)

This scholarship was established by alumni from University of Wisconsin’s HRTM program, in honor of the legacy of Professor Philip H. McGuirk. If you’re just starting out here as a freshman or a new student in the HRTM program, know that this award is specifically designed for you. It’s an opportunity to propel you on your journey in hospitality leadership.

The HRTM Alumni Scholarship for New Students is a $1,000 one-year, non-renewable scholarship. Thirty scholarship awards are provided for new entering students pursuing a major in Hotel, Restaurant & Tourism Management. No additional scholarship application is required, you will be automatically eligible if you meet these criteria:

  • Incoming first-year OR transfer student, transferring from an accredited college
  • Enrolled as a full-time, degree-seeking student for fall semester in the Hotel, Restaurant & Tourism Management program
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher from the most recent school attended
  • Both on-campus and online/customized instruction students are eligible

Weidner Real Estate Property Management Scholarship ($5,000)

The Weidner New Student Scholarship is a $5,000 one-year, non-renewable scholarship. Twenty scholarship awards are available for new entering students pursuing a major in Real Estate Property Management. Candidates are not required to provide any additional scholarship application. Interested candidate will be automatically eligible after meeting these criteria:

  • Incoming first-year OR transfer student
  • Enrolled as a full-time, degree-seeking student for fall semester in the Real Estate Property Management program
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher from the most recent school attended

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship ($1,500 – $2,500)

The Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship is offered only to qualified students transferring directly from two-year colleges for a Fall semester start. Interested candidates can see eligibility criterion, application form, and instructions: PTK Transfer Scholarship (PDF).

Honors College Scholarship: $1,000 (Renewable Option)

The $1,000 Honors College Scholarship is renewable for an additional three years, for a total value of $4,000. To qualify for the renewal the student must maintain eligibility for as long as university funding remains available. There are 15 awards available to select first-year students entering the Honors College. You are eligible for consideration if you meet these criteria:

  • Recent high school graduate admitted to UW-Stout as a first-year, full-time, degree-seeking student for fall semester, contingent on acceptance to the Honors College
  • Enrolled as an on-campus student (online/customized instruction students are ineligible)
  • Complete the Honors College Application by February 1
