Sweden is one of the leading countries in the world when it comes to top quality education. So if you have an ambition to study in this country then you’re really on the right track. Sweden was among few countries in Europe where you can study for free but this ended in 2010 after the Swedish Government passed a law that charges tuition and application fees for students from non-EU/EEA countries to be supplemented by Swedish Scholarship Programs. Up till today, a significant number of Universities in Sweden are still offering scholarships to international students in the form of tuition waivers. This is to encourage more internal students to keep opting for Sweden as destination for education.

Here are some scholarship programs which international students who wish to study in Sweden can apply for.

Sweden Government Scholarships for International Students

The government of Sweden has scholarship packaged aimed at encouraging international students to study in Sweden. Let’s take a look at two very popular ones.

Swedish Institute Scholarships for Global Professionals

The Swedish Institute Scholarships for Global Professionals (SISGP) offers scholarship to qualified students from selected countries and these students receive scholarship for full-time master’s level studies in Sweden. This scholarship covers both tuition fees, living costs, and insurance.

The Visby Programme Scholarships

The Visby Programme offers a number of full scholarships for master’s programmes in Sweden to students from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Russia and Ukraine. This takes care of the tuition fee, living expenses of SEK 9,000 per month, insurance, and a one-time travel grant of SEK 5,000.

University Scholarships in Sweden for International Students

Blenkinge Institute of Technology Scholarship Programme

BTH scholarship programme for prospective students is available for citizens from non-EU/EEA countries who are required to pay tuition fees for Swedish university education. This scholarship programme offers scholarships covering tuition fees in part (50%).

University of Borås Tuition Fee Waivers

The University of Borås gives tuition fee waivers to highly qualified students who are required to pay tuition fees. This scholarship is for students who are applying for eligible Masters Programmes at the University. The scholarships are aimed at cutting down the tuition fee by approximately 50%, they are not designed to cover living costs.

Chalmers IPOET Scholarships

The IPOET Scholarships are available for citizens from non-EU/EEA countries. Beneficiaries are required to pay tuition fees and they have to be applying to Master’s Programmes offered at Chalmers University.  The scholarship is a 75% reduction of the tuition fees.

Halmstad University Scholarships

Halmstad University makes available a number of scholarships every year to qualified students from outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland who are required to pay tuition fees. These scholarships are towards Master’s Programmes within any field of study offered at the University. The Halmstad University Scholarship covers 25% or 50% of the tuition fee and will be deducted from the tuition fee.

Karlstad University Global Scholarship Progamme

The Karlstad University Global Scholarship programme aims to attract top academic students from countries outside the EU/EEA (and Switzerland) who are required to pay tuition fees for studies. Scholarships cover 25%, 50%, 75% or 100% of the tuition fees.

Karolinska Institutet Global Master’s Scholarship

Karolinska Institutet offers a handful of tuition fee scholarships to excellent students who have been admitted to one of our Global Master’s Programmes starting each Autumn semester. The scholarship is only for students who want to do Masters degree pograms and it covers only the tuition fee. Beneficiaries are expected to take care of their living expenses.

Kristianstad University Scholarships

The scholarship is offered to citizens of a country outside the EU/EEA and beneficiaries are expected to pay tuition fee for studies at Kristianstad University. If granted a scholarship, it will include a full or partial reduction of the tuition fee.

KTH Royal Institute of Technology Tuition Fee Waivers

A limited number of tuition fee waivers will be available for citizens from non-EU/EEA/EFTA countries who are required to pay tuition fees and who has applied for a Master’s programme at KTH.  If granted a scholarship, the tuition fee will be waived for the total length of the programme.

Linnaeus University Scholarships

Linnaeus University Scholarships target students from countries outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland and these students are those who have applied for a study programme at Linnaeus University.  The scholarships takes care of 75 percent of the tuition fee but a few scholarship from the Linnaeus Academy of Science and Business cover 100 percent of the tuition fee.

Linköping International Scholarships

The LiU International Scholarship primarily focuses on supporting international students with impressive academic potential coming from countries outside the EU/EEA (and Switzerland). Beneficiaries are required to pay tuition fees for studies. For successful beneficiaries of LiU International Scholarships, the tuition fees are reduced by 25%, 50%, or 75%.

Lund University Global Scholarship Programme

The Lund University Global Scholarship Programme offers opportunities to highly qualified students who are citizens of countries from outside the EU/EEA (and Switzerland). Beneficiaries are required to pay a tuition fee. Students who apolied for Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programa are eligible for this scholarship.  Scholarships may cover 25%, 50%, 75% or 100% of the tuition fee.

Mälardalen University Scholarships

Mälardalen University provides scholarships to qualified students from countries outside of EU/EEA/Switzerland. The students are required to pay tuition fees and the scholarship is for those that applied for masters programmes at the University as their first choice.  The scholarship will cover 100% of the tuition fee of the programme, provided the student follows the approved study plan. Students are expected to take care of their living expenses.

Malmö University Master’s Scholarship

The Malmö University Master’s Scholarship (MUMS) targets qualified students who are citizens of non-EU/EEA countries and Switzerland. The scholarship is for students admitted to study masters degree programmes taught in n English language at Malmö University. The scholarship takes care of the entire tuition fee of beneficiaries.

Mid Sweden University Tuition Fee Scholarships

This scholarship program targets qualified students who applied to a study Masters degree programmes at Mid Sweden University. These students are required to pay tuition fees. are welcome to apply for a Mid Sweden University scholarship covers 75% of the tuition fee. So it is not a fully funded scholarship as the beneficiaries are expected to take care of the remiajng 25% of fees not covered by the scholarship.

Örebro University Scholarship Programme

The Örebro University Scholarship programme targets highly qualified students from countries outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland. These students are required to pay tuition fees for studies. The scholarship covers full or partial tuition fees but the students are required to take care of their living costs.

University of Skövde Master’s Scholarships

The University of Skövde provides a small number of scholarships to students interested in masters degree programme offered at the University and who can take care of their tuition fees. The scholarships are partial tuition fee waivers (50% tuition fee).

Stockholm University Scholarship Scheme

Stockholm University scholarship program is for qualified students admitted for Masters degree programs and these students are from countries outside of EU/EEA/Switzerland. They would be required to take care of their living expenses as Stockholm University scholarships cover only tuition fees.

Umea University Scholarships

Umeå University provides a limited number of scholarships to qualified students who are coming from non- EU/EEA countries. The scholarship is for students who are applying for a Master’s degree programme at Umeå University. Students that win this scholarship receive a full or partial reduction of the tuition fee.

Uppsala Universal Global Scholarships

Uppsala University Global Scholarships offer opportunities to citizens of countries outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland. The scholarships are cover Master’s programmes available in the University. Students who get the scholarship take care of their own living expenses but the cost of tuition is covered.
