Once we complete a master’s degree, we can either start our professional career or pursue a PhD program.  If you choose to pursue a PhD program then one of the setbacks that come in the way of a student especially when the PhD program is self-funded, is the cost of studying. Studying for over 3-5 Years, the doctorate course can take a toll on you financially if there is no scholarship to back it up.  We have arranged some of the popular PhD scholarship opportunity in UK that are known to offer a good amount to the scholars thus providing a smooth journey in establishing your career in research.

1. The University of Strathclyde Faculty of Engineering Excellence Scholarship (FEES) for International students;

The University awards a number of scholarships for international (non-EU) fee-paying students with excellent academic qualifications.

For you to apply, you must achieve an average of 75% + (or equivalent) in your high school grades to be considered and must hold a minimum of a 2:1 (or equivalent) in your undergraduate degree for you to be considered. The value of Scholarship is up to £3,750 and the duration of Scholarship is a year.

2. The Commonwealth Scholarships for Developing Countries:

Every year, Scholarships are awarded for Master’s and PhD study in the UK are offered for citizens of developing Commonwealth countries. It is funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID), with the objective of  contributing to the UK’s international development aims and wider overseas interests, supporting excellence in UK higher education, and sustaining the principles of the Commonwealth.

300 scholarships are awarded every year. The duration of Scholarships is 12 months for Masters and up to 36 months for PhD

and each scholarship provides approved airfare To and From UK  at the end of your award, approved tuition and examination fees, living allowance and many more.

3. University of Oxford Dulverton Scholarships:

There are up to two full scholarships available for applicants to full-time master’s or PhD in any subject at the University of Oxford.

The scholarship covers the course fees, college fees and as well as a grant for living costs of at least £14,553.

The duration of the Awards are made for the full duration of your fee liability for the agreed course.

4. Windle Trust Postgraduate Scholarships for Africans:

Windle Trust International is a registered UK charity located in the University city of Oxford, with offices also in Sudan, and sister organizations in Uganda, Kenya and Ethiopia. It is funded by a wide range of donors and supported by universities and colleges in Britain and Africa. Windle Trust International awards Undergraduate and Postgraduate scholarships to youths and refugees in Sudan, South Sudan, Uganda and Kenya and other African countries to study in Africa or UK.

Also, preference is given to subjects that offer a high probability of future employment and are of direct value to development.

The value of the award include;

Return airfare to and from the United Kingdom

Pre-university orientation on arrival in Oxford on issues such as adapting to life in the UK and dealing with culture shock, managing finances, study methods and accessing health care in the UK as well as practical scholarship arrangements

Fully paid/waived overseas student tuition fees

Maintenance (upkeep) stipend for the entire period (12 months) of study

Leadership training and coaching programme

Themed Conference and Workshop in January and July respectively on issues relevant to students and the challenges they face on a return such as CV writing, job searching and interview skills

Visits and pastoral support during the course of the studies

The Duration of the scholarship is given to applicants for postgraduate programmes up to one year in length.
