Sir Edward Youde Memorial Scholarships for Undergraduate and Diploma Students

The Sir Edward Youde Memorial Scholarships is for Undergraduate and Diploma Students who wish to study in select universities which include City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, Lingnan University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The Education University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, The University of Hong Kong, Vocational Training Council, and Hong Kong Shue Yan University.

Scholarship Aim

The aim of this scholarships scheme is to recognize and encourage academic achievements of full-time undergraduate and diploma students at post-secondary and tertiary levels in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (Hong Kong).

Scholarship Value

Beneficiaries will receive a one-off grant of HK$40,000. These successful candidates will not be required to relinquish scholarships or bursaries concurrently held by them. The value of the scholarship will not be reduced in such circumstances.

Eligibility

Candidates should:

1. have the right of abode or the right to land in Hong Kong or are permitted to stay in Hong Kong without restriction;
2. have resided in Hong Kong for at least three years;
3. be registered full-time students undertaking University Grants Committee-funded or publicly-funded courses at post-secondary / tertiary levels at one of the institutions listed

below:

City University of Hong Kong (undergraduate/diploma or above), Hong Kong Baptist University (undergraduate), Lingnan University (undergraduate), The Chinese University of Hong Kong (undergraduate), The Education University of Hong Kong (undergraduate/diploma or above), The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (undergraduate/diploma or above), The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (undergraduate/diploma or above), The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (undergraduate), The University of Hong Kong (undergraduate), Vocational Training Council (diploma or above), and Hong Kong Shue Yan University (undergraduate).

1. be nominated by the principals of their previous secondary schools (for first year students) or by the heads of their post-secondary / tertiary institutions (for second to final year students); and
2. not be engaged in full-time employment.

Procedure

The relevant institutions/schools will be invited to make nominations in September each year (since this is an annual scholarship. Qualified candidates will be invited to attend an interview normally in December. Candidates who have not heard from the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fund Council by the end of December should consider themselves not being selected. After the interviews, the results of the awards will be announced in around February / March. The nominating institutions and secondary schools will be notified of the results.

Payments

Scholarship monies will be remitted to the relevant institutions, which will be requested to make disbursement to the award recipients. Certificates will be presented to the award recipients at the Awards Presentation Ceremony scheduled for March / April.
