Oxford Indira Gandhi Graduate Scholarship

Oxford Indira Gandhi Graduate Scholarship to provide proper opportunities for Indian students to study abroad. Candidates must make sure they have secured your admission in Oxford. The students must be studying in selected courses based upon the funding that they are receiving and then they will be automatically eligible for the scholarship scheme. The applicant must be a resident of India because this scholarship scheme is only available to Indian students. The scholarship scheme covers 50% of the university cost of the students who are selected by the organization. The scholarship is available from the University of Oxford and the Government of India. Candidates will automatically be considered if they are coming from India and they do not have access to various opportunities because of their economic background. The Oxford Indira Gandhi scholarship was established by Somerville College, a constituent college of the University of Oxford.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be a resident of India or have previously studied at an Indian higher education institution.
  • All DPhils are eligible, but the proposed area of study must be relevant to the Oxford India Centre for Sustainable Development’s agenda of interdisciplinary research on sustainable development and India. The Centre’s core research areas are:
    • Sustainable cities
    • Climate change and clean energy
    • Healthcare innovation
    • Environmental sustainability
    • Food and water security
  • Law, governance and human rights are cross-cutting themes. Independent proposals on any India-related theme which fits within the overall aims of the Centre will be considered.

Financial Assistance

  • The scholarship covers course fees and a grant for living costs. Awards are made for the duration of fee liability for the course.

Application Process

  • This scholarship is only tenable at Somerville.
  • All eligible candidates who have applied for graduate study by the relevant funding deadline will be considered, regardless of which college preference is included in the graduate application.
  • Successful candidates will be transferred to Somerville in order to take up the scholarship.
  • There is no separate application process, but shortlisted candidates will be asked to attend a video interview in April.

Selection Procedure

  • The scholarship is available on the basis of the academic performance of the candidate.
  • The scholarship is available based on the relevance of studies to the Centre’s interdisciplinary aims.
  • The scholarship is available on the basis of the understanding of the development challenges that are faced by our country and also the leadership and entrepreneurship potential of the students.
  • Selection is on the basis of the performance that they are putting forward towards the community. The students will have to perform really well in their academics.
  • The financial needs of the students will also be taken into concentration in order to successfully give the benefit of the scholarship to all of the students.
